I tried getting them to put a 960 up on a stand for me but they seemed less than helpful so if you plan to get anything from underneath i think you'll struggle to get it picked up as its amongst a lot of cars. Must of been mot time for a lot of cars lately because they seem to of almost doubled their stock, amongst which are a few 940s. If anyone wants any interior id be sharpish about it because they tend to get ruined pretty quickly.

Once they're booked in scrapyards don't sell them, I'm sorry to say.
You can ask though.

Thanks 850 TDI, for the heads up on this.
I went to get some bits today, and as you say its a travesty that this particular car has ended up like this, It really is/was tidy with minimal rust. Its beyond me why It was scrapped!

So own up, who beat me to the under bonnet strut braces lol

Shell wise there is a bit of rust on the passenger cill but no way bad enough to cause scrapping, the rear arches are just going but would have been savable.

Davebslater - its also going on the outer seam below the rear bumper/spare wheel well if i proded harder with my finger It would have gone through, BUT It seems localized 3" or so and in general its pretty much mint.

Mylittletony - what specific parts are you after, not a whole lot left.

The interior is MINT, no rips/burns/wear on any of the seats, but the door cards have been ruined by someone ripping them off.

I took the indicator/wiper stalks, and center console (handbrake one) to get at It i removed the front seats and placed them neatly on the rears, so if anyone wants them they are already out ready to go. It did Indeed have an early boot lid which was locked shut with no keys, so i put a screwdriver through the lock and got It open without damaging the boot. I wonder if the owner themselves even had a boot key, It looked unused, so i also took the boot carpet, rear lights (both mint) and finally nabbed the boot lid itself.
So all in all quite a nice little haul for me.

Now the photo dump:

Early type scuttle, different to my 88 atleast

Rear arch

The brown isnt rust, its sealant/waxoyl

Clean! Do all saloons have that "long load" hatch?

Spotless headlining:

The seatbelts look unused too!

Has anyone mentioned that its got a complete stainless steel exhaust system aswell from the downpipe back! As per the OP i did ask if i/they could remove It before It gets cubed, thier response "you'd have to do It yourself, is It blocked in? Me - yes pretty much. "hmm you could ask in the yard, Me "possibly more hassle than its worth then". So its there and they "might" help you get it off but they dont make It easy for you. They have a good few 4 post ramps they use for decontaiminating so i dont really see what the issue is other than getting It out from where it is.

My bounty:

I guess they might lift the car if they are offered a big enough "drink" ... or offered enough money for the stainless exhaust, depending whose decision it is.

Would it be possible to get the gear knob (if its 5 speed) and sun visor clips (if they are the same as an 88GLT) if they haven't already been taken?

Many Thanks
Stefan

What a shame, looked a really clean 244 with not much rust. I can't understand some people. Could of sold it even if a mot fail to someone who likes 240's as to be honest I have only seen 1 in about a year.

At least it wasn't cubed straight away and some parts will live on, on other 240's

I can't understand the problem the scrappys in Glasgow would cut their Granny's leg off and sell it to you for £30 they would sell you the whole car for 150

Hello,
Well done Magnum, at least you will use the parts an not profiteer from them.
I checked D174 VAV at the DVLA but they have no record of this car.
I did mention this previously but the P plate 960 round our local scrapyard was completely mint, they had tried to remove the engine, had cut off one of the beige seatbelts and wrapped it round the 3.0 24 valve lump but then left it, and it went to the crusher. The condition was even better than this 240 and still met with a terrible fate.
Nothing like this will every surprise me again!
Cheers
