Temp sender snapped!
Hi to all,
We wondered why the engine was struggling to come out until all of a sudden it swung forward, only to find the temp sender bulb and cable had detached themselves from the bulkhead, and before you ask, yes, we had removed it first!! It had just got entangled. Now of course this will need replacing - can the cable/wire be re-jointed, can a new cable/wire with bulb be purchased and connected to the existing gauge (which has been good so far), or must a whole temp gauge and sender unit be installed. Anyone got any spares that might suit, or ideas? Ric |

Ya see, the problem is, its not a wire. Its a tube and quite delicate. A new replacement I would think.

Ouch!!
I wasn't expecting that, and that cost! B*****ks!
OK, I suppose that alternative would be to fit an aftermarket gauge which I wouldn't really object to. unless anyone has a replacement/spare gauge/sender unit. Ric |

I have heard of repairs to this type of gauge being made successfully, but it does involve obtaining the fluid (alcohol or acetone? - not sure) and carefully filling the capillary tube and then resoldering the connection. But it was far cheaper than renewing!
Unfortunately, I can't find the source of the information, as it was some time ago. You could try some searches in the hope that someone may know of the repair you require. Some of the clubs for older cars with this type of temp. gauge may be able to help. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck! |

I've got one or two good used units if you are interested. Yes, I'm across the pond but mail stuff over all the time.
Let me know... Chris |
