Default 1.9 diesel engine oil blowing.

I'm concerned about some oily symptoms on my 2002 V40 1.9 diesel, 90000 miles. I noticed a quantity of oil around what looks like an air intake/throttle body at the top of the engine. This oil has sprayed around all the neighboring components. On taking the air intake elbow off, the inside, around the butterfly, was thickly coated with oil. There also appears to be oil being forced up out of the dipstick tube. To me this is all pointing to the crankcase pressurising and oil being blown to where it shouldn't be, ie the intake side of the engine and out of the dipstick. Should I be getting worried about worn pistin rings or are there any other explanations/experiences with this.
Thanks.

I've had some advice from a friend that it could be the crankcase ventilation system that is blocked. Any ideas on this, and if so how to service these components?

To make sure its not a blow by(worn piston rings) go to some garage that can do Compression test. This should eliminate few possible causes.
