1995 Volvo 460 1.8Si Engine
Hi. was wondering what engine type/code ? my 1995 460 1.8Si has? I've been finding the following types: B18E B18ES B18ET B18FT B20F B20FT???
My wild guess would be that the latter two are 2.0l variants but I still can't figure what the letters mean. Thanks ROb |

Inbetween Volvo's...
|
B20F is the 2.0i (1998 cc) lump.
B18FT is the 1721cc multipoint injection Turbo lump B18ES *i think* is the just the standard 1721cc (1.7i)... B18E again, i think, is the 1.7 lump used in early 400 series engines that were replaced by the B18ES-i think the top end is lower as is the actual hp of the 18E, but it's a more torquey engine. As a guess, i would say the 1.8 Singlepoint is B18ET. But all of that is probably complete bollocks anyway The B20FT would suggest a 2.0Turbo, but Volvo never made a Turbo'd 2.0 for the 400 series... Chris1roll has had a fair bit of experience with 400 engines, he'd be the man you'd need to speak to.

Evening all,
This is from memory, so bear with me: B18E: 1721cc injection engine, 109hp no catalytic convertor. Seen in the first 480's and presumably 440/460 up to 89/90 B18F: 1721cc injection engine, 95hp, due to cat and lambda sensor B18ED: 1721cc injection engine, 106hp unregulated cat (no lambda) B18EP: 1721cc injection engine, 102hp, but higher torque than the earlier versions. (IMHO the best of the N/A 1.7's, seen from 89/90 onwards) B18FP: 1721cc injection engine, 102hp, high torque, with cat and lambda B18ES: Umm, not sure, maybe the carb version seen in the 440's? just guessing. B18ET: As far as I am aware, no such thing, since the T denotes turbocharger.... see next one. B18FTM: 1721cc, injected, turbocharged and intercooled engine, 122hp, no cat (the one to have IMHO) B18FT: As above but with a catalytic convertor. B18U: 1.8litre (i don't think it was 1721cc) singlepoint injection engine. think about 87-90hp... This is what I would guess yours is Rob. B16x: can't remember the letter code, but 1596cc multipoint injected engine, 85hp with cat and lambda. (I had this in my 440, one of the first ones; engine number was a load of zero's) B20F: 2.0litre fuel injected engine, with cat and lambda 110hp I think. B20FT: I'm with Daniel M on this one, I don't think that such an engine was ever released, as they kept melting...... course, we've managed to melt 1.7's but thats another story..... AS I say; from memory, so feel free to correct any errors, but I think its pretty up together..... Regards, Chris Last edited by Chris1Roll; Nov 11th, 2006 at 19:24. |

1995 460 1.8Si
In fact the displacement is 1784 cc or 1794cc. I can't remember where I read it. But I also agree that the power would be around 90BHP.
So does my car engine have a lambda sensor or not? It does have a catalyser, no? Thanks for your clarifications ROb |

Umm, not sure, I would have thought that it does, certainly it will definitely have a cat, what with being post Aug 92, when the emission regulations tightened up. easiest way would be to look.
