I had a clonking noise on hard lock at slow speeds, turned out the steering stop locks needed greasing.

I'm thinking it maybe both the strut bearing and cv's theres a single knock as I pull off with a hard steer but then the odd knock when driving. Shes also noticeably floaty whilst driving which makes me think the cv's are sticking.

There isn't much more to change as the struts, ball joints, tacked arms and wishbones are new

Update

Firstly thanks for all the advice it's really helped

My Volvo went in today to have the cv joints replaced and the strut bearings looked at. Thankfully the garage I use are honest ! Transpires the cv's and bearings are fine. The noise is caused by a loose/worn strap that connects the steering rack (or half of it) to the car. Each time I turn on full lock it lifts then drops back making the knocking noise.
A temporary fix has been done but will need to have s permenant repair. Best case a weld worse I rack

Most importantly I've a conclusion !!!

Thanks all

Some of that "floatyness" could be down to the natural body torsion/movement if yours is a cabriolet - the rag top set up doesn't give sufficient body strength in the floor panel to combat the front end wobble unless you fit a front cross brace (same applies to most soft tops around)- fitting one really changes the steering aspect which becomes much more decisive.

I agree that most soft tops have a lack of strength and did think the same. In this case the mechanic had a colleague go to full lock and he saw the steering rack move. He tried to spot weld it but didn't work. he has pushed a few spacers/washers into the gap to to stiffen the connection whilst looking into other options
This has actually made a difference!
I'm working on the worse case scenario as this will be resolved by a steering rack. As my C70 is a summer car i would rather have this sorted sooner than later.

Know the feeling - I still haven't had time to sort out the window problem which means I can't put the roof down

N/S front window winding cables either snapped or snagged on the pulley, the repair kit arrived last week - I just have not had time to get round to taking the door card and sorting.

Hi, did you check your PAS reservoir if it's half empty this can also cause a noise when turning as I experienced as mine was leaking...Once I topped it up completely the noise vanished ! I did order a new PAS reservoir and PAS fluid then some crapstain drove straight in to me and mines been written off...
