Good point, but it was definitely coating free, clean and free from grease.

+1 For Thule from me too.

I have a EuroClassic LED 929. Heavy but ultra stable, easy to use and secure. Worth every penny....

Anyone have a recommendation for a tow bar mounted bike rack that will stay in place?

Any suggestions welcome.
Westfalia BC60 folding rack, we have the optional third bikes carrier.

Compact, fold down, very secure. Fitted ‘out of the box’ on the OEM Westfalia detachable on our previous Touaregs, took a minor tweak to adjust onto the (smaller?) Volvo factory ball but all good when done.

We combine with Thule racks on the roof.

We got the Atera Strada DL3 plus the 4th bike attachment and it is a great rack. Just had it on the back going across France for 800 miles and no issues.

Available from roofbox and a bit cheaper than the Thule alternatives.

To echo almost everyone else, I've got to recommend Thule towbar mounted bike carriers. I have a 4 bike rack (purchased in 2015, its a three bike rack with an attachment for an extra bike - https://www.roofracks.co.uk/thule-ve...-adapter-9261/).

Expensive kit, but well worth it. In addition, I had a 2 bike rack for 5 years before this. Purchased new for approx £280, used plenty, advertised on eBay with clear descriptions of all marks etc, sold for £225!! Like many things, these quality products hold their value very well.

I bought one off eBay from a Renault dealer as it is a rebadged Thule 924 model, worked out I saved nearly £100. One thing to be careful of though is most cars are now programmed to switch off the cars rear fog light when a trailer is plugged in. most cycle racks don’t have a fog light meaning If it gets foggy when carrying your bike you don’t have any rear fog lights. I fitted an aftermarket Ring fog light to the bike rack, just enough room between the number plate and the off side light. It was dead easy, tap into the white negative in the plug and the unused blue fog light wire. Works a treat.
