Default air con smell

Hi all,
I have a 2007 D5 S80 and have just noticed a bad smell from the aircon.
Do i need the system cleened or is it just the cabin filter.
If it is the filter how do i get to it to change it.

This is my first post so be kind!!!!

Regards George

could be just lack of use maybe. try giving the air-con a good blast on a warm setting.

spray a little "fabreeze" on the filter prior to reinstalling it.

I've had the same thing on previous cars - if the a/c isn't used for a while you often get a bad smell when you start using it again but if it is used all the time you are unlikely to suffer from the smell. I've also been told that the seals in the system dry out if its not used (the refrigerant gas also contains a quantity of lubricant) and then the gas can leak out so even when you don't need cooling its best to use it at least once a week. Even in winter a/c is useful as it also dries as well as cooling so less misting up.
If the smell persist buy a can of something like Forte a/c cleaner (I bought some of ebay) - you start the car up and open all the vents and with the a/c and fan on full and on recirc, you let off the can (aerosol with a locking button) and get out of the car quick, close the door behind you and leave it for 5 minutes - the cleaner gets sucked all around the vent system and kills off any bacteria making the bad smells. It worked well for me.
