Triple-S Thanks for the info regarding possibly exempt vehicles, but I see from the TFL web site my wife's 61 years old car is only exempt from LEZ not ULEZ.
It gets more confusing so stay away from driving in London!

There was a time when I drove through London on my way to Tilbury docks to pick my merchant seaman mate up. Today I avoid the place like the plague, London has no appeal for me whatsoever. Even back then I found the people unfriendly bordering on downright ignorant and since my mate left the sea many years ago and my sister saw sence and relocated from Barking I have no need to ever go there fortunately.

I have the money to afford the extra charges if needed and would if I realy had to visit use the 26 year old landrover rather than the euro 5 volvo just out of spite.

Teach them buggers to not deliver on promises.

What all vehicle owners which are more than say 14 years old require is an upgraded Catalytic Converter to further reduce exhaust fumes that contain CO and NO. But this can only apply to those vehicles that have this type of exhaust so most classic cars should be exempt from pollution charges and that would include all those currently exempt from VED. I think the owners clubs such as our own VOC should be taking this up with the Government.
I do not think slapping a tax on drivers who have to be in City centres that have a pollution charge will make any long term difference to pollution. Better to plant more trees!

Motorcycles are exempt if they emit less than 0.15g/km of NOx. After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing with TfL, my motorbike has been granted exemption after I provided them with the Certificate of Conformity for the vehicle type showing a NOx emission of 0.09 g/km.

They will accept exemption if the NOx emission is shown on the V5C or the C of C. Note that I had to provide both documents as the emission was only shown on the C of C.

For reference it's a 2005 Triumph Sprint ST1050. My son didn't have to jump through burning hoops. His 2009 Triumph Daytona 675 showed as exempt using the TfL link here.

If its 'tax' exempt it should be exempt , I've just checked all my classics and they are all exempt from charges.
All cars are exempt from LEZ regardless of age.

TFL clearly do not want any tourists visiting London.
When I use the old UK registration plate for my car it shows GBP12.50/day, when I use the current reg it's GBP212.50/day until they validate the vehicle type. Wonder if I'd get my GBP200/day overcharge refunded ?

Would you really want to drive your car into London even if there was no charge you still have to battle through the locals driving then pay £10 an hour to park?

They want you to take public transport..... The whole things a shambles, less cars means more planes. They’re on about extending Heathrow which means more planes and fumes drifting over London. There’s a lot of robbing Peter to pay Paul going on here. I wonder how much pollution the Eco demonstrations are producing?

Indeed, but it's not quite that hard and fast either. TfL state Euro 3 on their website but actually only mention NOx; my bike isn't actually Euro 3 compliant as one of the other two emissions specified in the Euro 3 standard (I can't remember which but think it's CO) is higher than the upper limit. However, I still have a letter of exemption based purely on the NOx emission figure.
