Default Home electronics help needed

hi all

I`m posting this here for a wider acces (non-members cannot see the lounge, after all)

I`m in a bit of trouble. Workwise.

I need to find a projector for one of clients and I am, frankly, struggling.

requirements for projector are:

1: decent make (Epson Bye-bye)
2: throw ratio adjustable to acheve roughly 1.37 (for example a projector with throw ratio adjustable between 1.2 to 1.5 would be acceptable)
3: needs to have a HDMI input
4: needs to have an analogue audio output (external amp+ speakers)
5: needs to have a 12V trigger output (to operate its lift, lowering it from the ceiling void)

all that is quite.. maybe not common, but can be found in minutes

so here comes the big one, the one requirement that prevents me from sleeping at nights:

6: needs to have a dedicated IPHONE (!!!!!!) app to turn it On/Off!

Anyone knows anything?

Please!

(non- members: please click my name to the left, choose "view profile", then "contact info", and leave a "visitor message")

Thank you all in advance

What sort of projector Thomas, venue, installation, portable?

Try Panasonic they have a dedicated iPhone app but if it is confrence room installation then the client might want to look at different more up to date options.

True that..

I should have said where it is to be fitted.

Living room . Kind of a "space saving" home cinema.

That is:

Projector on lift
Apple TV (obviously app controlled)
External small amp with just 2 speakers for stereo.

So, not really portable.

It will be ceiling mounted (upside down) with is lift, screen some 4 metres from the lense.
And that means it cannot be a "short throw" (throw ratio above 1.5) projector- these can produce a 100" picture 2 metres from the projector itself. If I gotten one of these in his living room, there wouldn't be enough wall to use as a screen..

Client isn't fussy about audio, or picture quality, for that matter..

But he.. "can't use devices that aren't controlled by an iPhone"..

Thus the requirement for that app.

I really, really dislike this guy, but, as it often happens, keeping him happy brings me other, more profitable jobs. (He's an interior designer in Chelsea, you do the mathematics)...

Edit:

And below £1000...

(To think that I actually fave him a comprehensive list of modules to build a whole thing with speakers, amp, projector, programmable remote- Logitech Harmony with its own app, stuff that would do all that he's asking for and more! Priced all together around a grand, and he refused as " too expensive".. And now he wants to spend that grand on the projector alone, just as long as its controllable by his phone... This should give you an idea of what do I think of him)

Thomas, you are a better businessman than me, I would of walked away from the prat long ago.

I see your predicament, afraid I cannot help, but a story I was told by a carpenter making a bespoke kitchen for an up her backside solicitor whom boasted about charging £70 an hour. Job completed at the agreed price but extras then wanted, did the extras and presented the bill, goodness says solicitor that's expencive, yes says carpenter but if you charge £70 an hour for your skill why shouldn't I for mine. With bad grace she paid and he walked away knowing he would never have to deal with her again. As soon as customer starts moaning about the price I walk away, at my age life's too short.

Paul.

As Kenny Rogers put it:
'You got to know when to hold 'em,
Know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away,
And know when to run.'

Like the 'Gambler', we all want to break even, Thomas.

Regards, John.

Sorry Thomas, I know of none that would be suitable at that price. There are loads that are rubbish below £1K but none of a decent make, and whilst he says he doesn't care about audio or picture quality you can guarantee he will care when it looks crap.

I was there just today. As it happens- I only made it back home.

It is kind of sorted..

I said that I'm unable to find a "single box" solution for him staying within the price, but I can make a projector+ Logitech combo..

He asked me for requirements of the projector (as stated in first post) and will ask "specialists"...

As if I hadn't..

Oh, well. Not my responsibility for now. I will have to fit it one day, but for now.. One thing less to worry about.

Just seen this

THis is what I do for a living.......hence the username....

I am a specialist PM me if you need some help...

Interested as to what you consider reasonable make if Epson isn’t?
Barco? Christie?

iPhone control is normally via control system in higher end projects (crestron, control4) etc direct app control is a little point less as once it’s been switched on you won’t use the app till you turn it off.....

I used to do lots of residential installs now I’m commercial only tell them to read what hifi or try avforums

NEC would probably fit the bill
