Default New To Group Volvo 760 Turbo Intercooler 1986

Hi all.

From North West (Warrington) and just signed up to the club.

Thought I'd introduce myself and the car.

Have a new V90 but just got the above 760 too.

Going to be using it daily. Anyone close by who knows decent mechanics and has any tips etc?

Had it fully serviced, brakes, suspension, transmission oil, new belts etc. Seems be a great runner for now!

Thanks in advance.

Adam.

Car is Volvo 760 Turbo Intercooler Automatic 1986, 60,000 miles and 1 previous owner.

Welcome aboard!

Very nice and one of my favourite colours too, Blue-Green Metallic.

Looks like that car came from the Isle of Wight originally unless the reg number has been transferred to it.
If so it would be worth finding one of these firms that steam cleans the underside of the car, repairs any damage/corrosion and then treats it with anti-corrosion fluid to counteract any "sea-breeze" effect.

I'm a bit confused though, you say you've had it fully serviced but then ask about any decent mechanics in your area? Surely the mechanic you used to service it is a decent mechanic? If not, find one quick and get them to put right whatever this one has done wrong or omitted!

I'm guessing the timing/cam belt was renewed, oil and filter change, air and fuel filters, plugs, drain flush and renew coolant with ethylene glycol and the gearbox had the correct fluid installed and the back axle oil at the very least checked, or depending on mileage, changed? All of that at the very least!
What about the brake fluid?

It's certainly an early car and potentially one of the earliest surviving 760 Turbos.

PS The only thing I would change is the cast iron gate for a proper dog guard

Great car
Congratulation.

Does it come with the additional oil cooler for the transmission?

The fuel filter is changed too?

Nothing to worry about this model. Very reliable and "fast" withough perfect mpg.
Who cares about this?
Cool down the turbo after a fast ride.
Change regular oil and plugs.
Done :-)
Be aware of cheap fuel, the engine will ping terrific otherwise.
Good luck and enjoy, Kay

Thanks all.

Additional fluids to be checked like brake/steering etc.

I'll get interior pics when I get it back.

Does anyone have any sources for emblems? It has all the originals but one is hanging off and I'm worried I won't be able really it properly.

It does have the oil cooler too.

I have been quoted 800 quid for the under seal so that might need to wait but it is an option once everythings sorted. May whack a new exhaust system on it just cos.

Quick question.

Mine has no roof rails or roof clips but I want to get roof bars and a tray. Any help on which would be best but I want best quality.

Cheers.

When you have a new V90 but you use a concourse 760 Turbo every day instead...I like your style.

Keep an eye on the forums and you'll pick up on the common things to look at, like changing the strut to track control arm bush, cleaning the PCV system, checking the distributor cap etc.

The dizzy cap won't be a problem on that one, it's a block mounted jobby and it should have the B23ET K-Jetronic turbo engine, very, very early beast indeed!

Good point about the spaceship bushes and PCV system too
