Default Clunking from rear

I have been asked by Voc member John Wetherell for information concerning is XC70...

The text is below:
Current Car 2008 Model XC70 – Reg. No. M60 JHW

I purchased the car in May 2009, from my local dealer Squire Furneaux Maidenhead. The mileage, when bought, was 7500.

I have been extremely pleased with the car with one exception, a knocking sound from the suspension. I took the car back to Squire Furneaux, who agreed that there seemed to be a problem. They had the car back, twice, the second time to carry out a rectification to one of the sub frame bushes, as advised by a Volvo Technical bulletin. I was shown the bulletin, and was disturbed to note that the sub-frame has been changed on newer models. This has not cured the problem, and further discussions suggest that it is a characteristic of the car. I would be interested to know if you have heard this from anybody else. The noise occurs going over speed bumps, or potholed road surfaces.

This is my 9th Volvo Estate (From 245GL) so I am brand loyal, having been very pleased with all the cars I have had. I have tried to speak to a specialist at Volvo, to see if this is normal, but apparently I am not allowed to talk to anyone, and the only suggestion was to go to another dealer.

I am considering going to another dealer to test drive a similar model.

If anyone is able to offer some assistance or advice it would be appreciated

Cheers
Jod

Jod - I'm sure I will be way off the mark here but do you know for sure that the suspension is the issue? I posted on here a couple of months ago about a grating /knocking noise heard on my V70 and, despite me almost taking the car apart at the rear it turned out to be that the grease on the boot door had been wiped away. I couldn't believe this was the cause of the noise every time I went over a bump or even around a corner as the car flexed - it was though and was sorted instantly.
As I say, your issue may be much more complicated but it's always best to try the easy things first!

Good luck - let us know how you get on.

Unhappy

I seem to have that problem as well although not daily. Seems to be much more acute when I carry a "full" load of passengers, and oddly enough, when roads are wet. Maybe that is a coincidence. Have taken the car to the dealer and drove with mechanics to point out the problem, of course the noise wouldn't appear at that time.
Found any solutions yet?
