V70 first reg April 2003. When the car has been locked for some time the drivers door can only be unlocked using the key. After starting the engine the unit on the drivers door that controls the windows, mirrors and child locks does not work. When this fault first occurred there was a click after about 5 minutes and the unit worked OK so it was just an inconvenience. However, the delay before it starts to work is getting longer and is now 20 minutes before it will function! I've checked the wiring to the door and taken the panel off the door and checked the wiring. All appears to be OK. Is it the the unit on the door that is faulty or the alarm system that is faulty? Long before this fault occurred the message system has been telling me the alarm system needs servicing but this is because the alarm siren does not work due, I believe, to a flat alarm stand by battery. Once the engine is started this message disappears. There are no other messages. Apart from the siren the alarm works OK. Can anybody help?

I don't know too much about the electrics of these cars but is it possible there could be a dying relay associated with this fault or perhaps an earth wire corroding away at some point?

Thank you Steve for your reply I'll certainly look at all the relays to find the one that is associated with the drivers door control unit and replace it. Ruffyl
