Request for pix of 544 Wiper Switch
Forum;
A question has come up on the German Volvoniacs forum, where I would like to show that the Wiper Switches of 544 and 122 are very different, both in appearance, and elec function (and not interchangeable!), so I would like to show them side by side, showing all terminals. I believe Switches for 6V and 12V are similar, but will accept correction or further details with appreciation. I found this, but its a cluttered pic from one side only... https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=233405 Thanks in advance to any 544 specialists who can help...! |

Two different switches. The first is wiper switch, The one fitted is wiper wash switch. Marked V tork The first is single pull, the fitted is pull-pull. Single speed only. Now if only I could get a working 6 volt pump.
Addendum. Contact positions from top left clockwise. 31b-53a-53-31.

Thanks for the help with pictures! Can I request you take some additional, well lit, especially with the terminals (and terminal markings if there are any) of the two also. I can't supply a 6V washer pump for you, but if its a matter of having a wash function until you locate one, you might just try a 12V pump...you might find it works, at a reduced pressure and volume, but still adequately. I really don't want to dismantle the fitted switch and disturb the wiring but I will post pic' of wipe only switch terminals later.
Re' wash, the pump works but not with enough strength to lift the wash fluid. Hope this helps

TIA for whatever pix you can supply! I need them to make a 544 Wiperswitch to 122Wswitch comparison. Re Washer...that's what I was afraid of...6V is just not enough oompf for the 12V motor...now if you mounted the reservoir and pump up high so pump had some help from gravity and wouldn't have to work quite so hard, that would do it!!...but you might not like the idea of driving around with your Windshield Washer Bottle strapped to your Luggage Rack... ...how about boosting the 6V to 12V and supplying the 12V Washer pump with that, while you continue to look for a 6V one (try the vintage VW world for this also!). Search for: 6V to 12V converter! One rated for 2A should do it...like this one...not terribly expensive...and should do the job: https://www.ebay.com/itm/DIGITEN-DC-...YAAOSwCL9Zs9fS ...and you can take that bottle down from the Luggage Rack! Cheers * If you think my Luggage-Rack-Located-Reservoir-with-12V-Pump-Idea is creative...in around 1970, VW was no less creative when they came up with the idea of using the Spare Tire Pressure as the motive force for the Washer Reservoir...no kiddin' Edit: Thanks for Pic! Edit 2: Request to reuse/repost pic with attribution. Last edited by Ron Kwas; Mar 6th, 2018 at 10:46. |

Should I wire the convertor before or after the switch? also would this converter be OK to power my 12 Volt tomtom GPS?

Arcturus;
If it was powering the pump only, I'd wire it after the switch, so that it wasn't operating all the time making 12V needlessly...however, if you need the constant 12V for your GPS (it could certainly be used to run that, you just need to wire it up and make a bit of a 12V power panel or connector setup), it clearly needs to be on-line all the time making the 12V. ...so you might want to assure current consumption of those two loads to assure that 2A module rating is sufficient to run both (measure consumption individually, and assure total is not over 2A...if so, you might need two modules)...module is a highly efficient switch-mode module, but check how warm it gets under constant use powering GPS...if it is too toasty, it wouldn't hurt to mount it with some thermally transfer compound (aka heat-sink grease) onto sheetmetal of the vehicle in a discrete location (maybe under the Dashboard), so it can shed this heat (General Rule: Cooler electronics= Increased longevity!).
