I had a Blackvue 650 2CH dashcam. Hard wired by the dealer using a Blackvue black box that ensured it worked in parking mode. Rear camera connected to the front one by a cable that they ran up and inside the headlining.
The advantage of a 2 channel dashcam setup is that the videos are synchronised - they both show exactly the same time controlled by the front one.
My new car has a single front dashcam which is frustrating.

I don't know if the XC60 and S60 share the same fuse box, but on my S60 (2012) I used a fuse in Box B, and it was an empty fuse slot at the top of the the penultimate row (looking left to right). You can test which fuses are live with ignition (rather than live all the time) with a multimeter if you have one. Beware though that if the fuse slot is empty, you need to work out which of the terminals is live and which is the return - trial and error is fine! But don't assume it is not a live slot until you've tried both terminals - another way is to plug the piggyback in and test the output of the piggyback lead vs an earth point (anywhere on bodywork/chassis will normally do). I was going to write up a quick guide on how I did it (and wired it in) if people think that might be useful..?

Sorry for the delay.

Cant remember which fuse I used, but I just used a circuit tester (pointed probe with fly lead & bulb in the clear handle) to find an ignition controlled fuse (on the top row from memory), only downside to a piggyback fuse is that you cant get the cover back on without cutting a hole for the piggyback (I didn't bother to refit the cover !)

On my car (2010 R Design D3) I found nothing in the fusebox that was either live with ignition and off without, which I was "happy" using as some of them were in my opinion critical to the function of the car. Given that even the Puddle Lights are automatically sensed and power dynamically cut byt the car is the wrong bulb is put in, even the negligible load of a dash came "could" have some consequence. After 32 years in It and the fact that Volvo love their software controlling everything I picked up on the cigarette lighter wires in the tunnel and put an additional fuse in place with one of those 12 volt USB Power units from HongKong available on eBay.

Please do. I have been thinking of setting this up myself on my XC60 and will find it very useful

When volvo install their official accessories, eg removable GPS unit (tomtom or garmin) they always take their switched supply from the back of the cigar lighter socket.

Installation instructions, including power, for pillar mounted gps on 2011 v60 here:
https://accessories.volvocars.com/In...20(-18)%202011

Check in the same place for instructions for your specific vehicle

Hi,

I am trying to install a dashcam into my XC60 (MY15). When I bought the car there was a hardwired mini-USB cable running between the windscreen and ceiling then down the A pillar.

The dashcam I bought used a micro-USB, so I wanted to swap the cables out (rather than buy a mini-micro converter).

I removed the A pillar trim and followed the cable to discover it goes behind the glove box/side dash-trim somewhere, then onto the passenger footwell fuse box.

Below is a photo showing the top and bottom of the cable (indicated by red arrows) but not sure how it goes behind the glove box.

I suspect if I remove either/or the glove box or side panel I'll see where the cable is routed. The glove box seems straight forward, but if I need to remove the side panel, can anyone provide tips on how this is done? The side panel I'm referring to is the one with the passenger airbag override.

Also, the dashcam has a parking sensor, so I need to mainain power when the ignition is off, which is currently not the case. Which fuse number should I move it to achieve this?

Thanks in advance.
