Default p1800 Metallic blue paint colour code

I am in the process of doing a full nut and bold restoration on my P1800 and came across what appears to be an original Volvo 1800 paint colour code, 81-3. I came across this code here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TND9Hlcp8sw (at 1:19 you can see the plate with the code on the car) http://volvo1800pictures.com/0_car_p...2_noc_0719.php

It appears to be an original Volvo trial colour, but i can't find any reference to it or what the exact make up of this colour is. Would any one on this forum be able to shed some light on this, as this is the colour I would like to paint my car.

Thanks

This is the You Tube car with info of the special colour. If yours is the same, maybe with the blue X1000 interior too, then that one isn't unique. Your chassis number is possibly very close to 2371 though as I might expect them to build special spec cars along side each other.

I would send a mail to Karl-Erik Malberg here karl@1800pictures.com and see if he can help. He would also like details of your car for the database. Also send him the You Tube link.

Derek, If I read it right I think he was saying he would like to paint his car this colour, not that it was this colour originally.

The You Tube car and the one listed on 1800 pictures is the same car. The owner on 1800 pictures says that the blue is the original trial colour 81. Knowing how long between the two sets of pictures/video would be useful as one looks to be in Sweden and then the completed car looks to be or was in USA. You Tube owner says he sold it about a year afterwards. All a bit odd. We now have an apparent sister car in New Zealand. Small World.

Derek underdrive is correct. My 1800e is white and I am wanting to know what the make up of the experimental blue code 83 is so I can re spray my car the same color.

I think it is a very classy color, but with blue you get over a million shades and pick the wrong one on a classic car and it will spell disaster and look dreadful.

I am still in two minds what color to paint the car either red or blue. I am leaning towards blue.

I read your OP as your car also being the experimental blue 81-1 or 81-3 but that's not the case it seems. Your car, but original factory colour as delivered will always help to maintain the best value for the car.
It would be a bit silly/stupid/unwise, you call it, if the owner of the car with special, and maybe unique colour and trim, to change it to anything other what is "stock" for that car. However the YouTube resto shows that it now has a non stock interior so it's partly devalued already. Fully back to original could well raise it's value to about one third above the average Jensen. That's a guess.

The car in the video and 1800pictures is not my car and I have never seen it in the flesh. I have a white 1800e which is in poor shape and going through a full restoration. I am wanting to change the color on my car and like the look of the blue. So that's why I am asking what the make up or reference to the 83 code is.

OK all is clear now. I suspect there is no info as to the spec of that colour and what's needed to match it. That shop probably did the best they could to match what was on the car. There are many metallic blues close to that shade and for repeatability finding one as close as possible to one you like, say Jaguar indigo-blue metallic, might solve your problem.
