VIN Number
Good morning fellow Volvo owners.
I'm hoping someone will have an answer to my simple question. Other than the build plate above the brake master cylinder , is the vin/frame number recorded anywhere else on the vehicle ? Regards Andy |

On later cars it is also stamped on the bulkhead. There is also a body number plate.
What year and model is your car? Why do you ask the question |

Hi it's a 1968 133, I've had a letter from DVLA asking me to confirm the numbers as their records don't match, all old (hand written) MOT's have 133342P but when I put it back on the road three years ago it had never been on the electronic system. the MOT bloke was never sure of which part was the vin so just put it down as not found, but this year it was a different bloke and he put 427-575 which is the upholstery code.
The puzzler for me is that on the V5 133342P is followed by 6 numbers that I don't have. |

I get that every year. Just had it, in fact. The MOT man puts the 6 digit and one letter number down on the MOT, the DVLA then come back saying there is a mismatch as the V5 has a much longer number. You need to put the whole number on the bulkhead down. It is stamped above the heater box inside the engine bay. Often overpainted and hard to see in full. It will start with the 6 digits you already have.

The one you want is the number stamped into the bulkhead above the heater box. Yes you may have to buff off the paint a bit to read it, especially if it has been painted again since it left the factory. The number on the plate above the MC's is just the spec of the car and not its number. Ignore the number on the plate on the inner wing, that's just the body number given to it when made and isn't relevant. It is often many digits different to the actual VIN number as the bodies entered the line in no set order after painting. Often they had to have correction done after that plate was fitted and that put them further back in the line.

Right guys, my number must be under some very thick paint, is it situated to the left/right or centre of the bulkhead above the heater box ?

It's in the centre near the top fixing just above and will be about five to six inches in length with some stars stamped each end of the number .. Hope it helps but also it is not unheard of that no number was stamped I have seen a handful of amazons with no stamping at all .... Kind regards Robert.w

I've seen pics of the numbers going vertically on the bulkhead between the heater box and the heater valve. Which models have it like that?
