Transmission Service required!!!!!!!!!!
XC90 D5 105K 2004 163
Last week I had to brake pretty sharpish to avoid an accident. As a result of this the transmission service light came on. The XC90 seemed to struggle accelerating after that for the rest of the journey. The following day it started to drive normally and has been so far. I got the XC90 looked at by a transmission specialist company who advised that the gearbox was working correctly after a 15 min test drive. They then ran diagnostics and several codes came up. After resetting the codes one came back immediately. ECM-5310 COMMUNICATION PROBLEM WITH TCM The specialist advised that the problem is with the TCM and could be 1. A broken wire 2. Dirty connectors or failed TCM. He advised that a sparky needs to do some test on the TCM and take it from there. I changed the ATF fluid 2 years ago using Mobil JWS3309 I have attached a the printout with the codes. Any advice greatly appreciated as to the next step. If the TCM is faulty what is the likely cost of replacement? (I've just spent £800 on refurbishing all the injectors) so need to keep the costs reasonable otherwise I may just get rid of it as is and invest in another more reliable vehicle |

Often when the error message comes up, the gearbox will lock into 3rd so it can be driven safely but obviously the acceleration will be poor. I would check out the connections & wiring loom to the TCM in case the sudden braking as damaged / loosened something.

I know. That included the test fee and removal/fitting along with new pipes, clips etc.. & a 12 month warranty.
All 5 injectors failed the bench test. Was a steady decline over 12 to 18 months and it got to the point where upon every start up the XC was smoking/smelling of unburnt fuel. Originally when i purchased the XC approx 3 years ago all injectors were given the all clear by volvo dealer. |

Hi oliverrees86, Can you share where the loose connection was? TCM side or the ECM side?
