I've got some Landsail tyres in my garden (i wanted some rubber crazy-paving ), removed from my 760 about 6 months back when i fitted a set of Invovics.

Cheap, yes, but they appear to be a mid-range tyre and so far i can't fault them - quiet, grip like the proverbial on a blanket, comfortable ride and seem to be wearing well too.

Been trying to find out whether the Goodyear tyres are Japanese or American, seems my idea above they are all made in China now is wrong. Depending on exactly when they were made, Goodyear ans Sumitomo split and in most of Europe (UK included) Goodyear is Japanese but in other parts of the world, American.
From what i can work out, the split happened in 2014 so maybe it was something to do with that and a bad batch was the result.

Default cracked tyres

My 940 estate has been standing in the garage for three and a half years and apart from the pressures being a bit low are all ok sounds like you had a bad batch.

Many thanks for this info, I've phoned Goodyear's technical department, basically they are telling me to take them back to Halfords, get new tyres, get Halfords to send them back to Goodyear, then I may get a refund based on what tread is left, I'll see what Halfords have to say first, There is further information in the CONSUMER GUIDE TO TYRE WARRANTY COMPLAINT PROCESS, But lets just see what Halfords say. David.

Since my original post I have been in touch with Goodyear, tyre.techuk@goodyear.com they suggested returning the tyre to the supplier, in my case Halfords, unfortunately the procedure is to get replacement tyres, the supplier then sends your old ones back to Goodyear, they then examine the tyres and offer a refund (if your lucky) based on the amount of tread used and general condition of the tyres, if you do get a refund at least its something towards the cost of your new ones, my tyres have done less than 2000 miles, on inspection at Halfords the first words he said to me was they needed changing. so whatever your taste in tyres is, and in all probability not all will agree with me but I've gone for Bridgestone Turanza T005 hopefully to be fitted on Friday, then I'll have to wait to see what happens with Goodyear. David.

It just occurred to me, has anyone else in whatever country you are in, had the same problem with low mileage Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres cracking, if so contact Goodyear they may do a recall.

I doubt they will extend any warranty beyond the expired statutory 12 months.
The tyres are legal, wear them out

Legal depends on your interpretation of the law. Go to this link, find the section on wheels and tyres, scroll down to section 4.1 and read under the right hand column, "Reasons for Rejection",

• a lump, bulge or tear caused by separation or partial failure of its structure. This includes any lifting of the tread rubber

http://www.ukmot.com/manual/4.1/Trea...epth#MOTMANUAL

Does the OP wait until his MoT runs out to find he has 4 illegal tyres? Or wait until the Police stop him for a routine check and he gets 16 points on his licence and a bicycle?

Tyres are the only contact point between the car and the road, most 7/9xx models weigh about 1500kg give or take, it's not funny trying to stop or keep control at any speed if a tyre goes.

Yeah, buying new tyres and getting the old ones sent to the manufacturer to be x-rayed is standard procedure.

Tyres that are out in all weather for 2.5 years will perish regardless of whether you use them or not. Storing your car in a garage will reduce this but they will still crack eventually.

This pic was taken when my front tyres were at the 3 year mark, so they were probably cracked like this for ages. 6500 miles each year. Dunlop Bluresponse.

Still got another 6 months out of them. Passed MOT with just advisory for wear on the outside shoulder.

The reply I have had from Goodyear states that they guarantee their tyre for five years
