You can put the DVD into your PC, it's a standard data disc.

Most of the time the problem is caused by a dirty laser, you can clean it carefully with a cotton bud and a bit of window cleaner

If that doesn't fix it the laser is likely old and weak, and needs replacing

Does the satnav DVD drive accept the disc? If it does, have you first tried the Volvo cleaning disc?

My 'new' V70 wouldn't accept a disc, I found the DVD mechanism part of the electronics box had failed. The easiest way I found to repair it was to buy a working unit from a breaker and swap the DVD drive assembly to the original electronics box. You can't just swap the entire unit as it's coded to the car, I tried out of interest and found none of the buttons would work, so couldn't even clear the warning screen.

A DVD does not deteriorate.
But it may be dusty, clean it gently from inside to out

What deteriorates with age is the laser - it gets dusty and weak.
A clean of the laser lens normally brings it back to life.

To "oin it down" do the following:
1. Verify the DVD is OK by putting it in a PCT and reading the contents. It am 99% sure it will be fine,

2. Run the sat nav built-in diagnostics and read any messages shown. What are the current faults? What were the historical faults?
Report the diagnostic info info here. Use photos if you are not sure how to describe what you see.

Well thats pretty clear
Obviously nothing wrong with the DVD disc itself
Either your DVD mech has died, become unplugged, or the main board DVD interface has a fault
Replace the entire DVD mech with a known good unit to narrow down the fault further
