2009 XC70 205 D5 - Shift to Park - IN PARK!
Hello Peeps
Not my usual forum, I'm more of a pre Ford era, however I have found myself repairing a 2009 XC70 D5 which has sucked the aux belt into the timing belt. Long story short, I have removed the battery as part of the strip down process, obviously disconnected a number of sensors around the cylinder. When I refitted the battery to push the vehicle out of the workshop it would not release from Park. We used the shift lock over ride and got the vehicle out of the workshop and disconnected the battery again. My question is, why would the vehicle not recognise the transmission is in park? Is there a process to reset it? It obviously won't release the key either, and while this isn't an issue at the minute, it likely won't turn over once the engine is rebuilt. Any help or advice gratefully appreciated! Thanks in advance Andy

Check all your fuses? Is the battery fully charged and OK?
I'm assuming you've done a head build/repair if timing belt was destroyed? Timing belt replacement does not need battery removal.

I would agree, battery does not need removed to replace the timing belt, bit it does to remove the cylinder head. Which is the current state of the car, currently waiting for parts. Battery is strong enough to operate windows etc. No reason to believe fuses are blown as everything appears to be working.

Not saying this is related to do with your issue but could be worth a go... however I had a similar issue after changing my battery where my car would not move out of park. I simply disconnected the battery and reconnected it a few minutes later and all was fine... pure luck by my part that this fixed it though....

Been at the car a number times over the past week, battery has been left disconnected, each time I have reconnected and tried with no effect.

Bit of a long shot...
I assume you’ve got the foot brake on when trying to move the shifter? Are the brake lights coming on? Don’t know if this car uses the brake light switch to sense the brake being pressed to allow the lever to be unlocked, or I think there’s a brake position sensor on the servo, worth a check. Does Vida report anything amiss? |
