Default 87- 240 GLT Rev problem

On the way home from work tonight the car decides it intermittantly didnt want to rev past about 2k rpm and thus limited me to about 20 mph. The auto box was behaving oddly to begin with but then the rev issue was present in neutral too.

I didnt have time to mess with it when i got home. Anyone have any ideas for what to go after first. Im thinking possible tps fault??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am speaking out of ignorance, but, simplest thing first: is there a kick down cable and is it in good order?

There are instances discussed in other threads where a faulty kick down cable affected general running.

Aye I had mine snag in the kickdown position meaning that I had to gun it to get anywhere, try driving as though it was a manual, start off in L then 2 and then D bare in mind 2000 rpm would be about 45 to 50 mph in D also check your fluid level and if your overdrive is accidentally switched off this would disable fourth gear.

Scott

I should also point out that a couple of times the kickdown cable jammed the throttle cable drum limiting acceleration, just in case you wondered where I was going with this one?

Thanks guys that sound really helpful. At least I have something as a starter for 10. I've ordered a new kick down cable (£25) just in case and I'll have a proper investigation tonight.

I'll report back on progress.

There is no TPS on a GLT

The fault points to a faulty rotor arm

If you want to keep a rev limiting type rotor then use

https://www.classicswede.co.uk/Rotor..._13877045.aspx

or if you want to remove the rev limit

I changed the rotor arm and it initially worked ok but has reverted to the same fault again, limited to 1500-2000 rpm. It will idle ok but it sound quite rough now.

I've cleared out the garage so I can get the car inside and have a really good look at things over the next week.

Bit miffed really as the 240 is sick and the donor 960 has a sick engine too
