Seems it is retro fittable with a module in rear and software upgrade

You can use the Dension DAB+U kit (simulates a USB drive).

More about it here; https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showp...54&postcount=2

Are you saying that 'option 683' is also available as a dealer upgrade? - I was led to believe that it could only be fitted by the factory during original manufacture when I looked at fitting DAB to my 2016 xc70

You're correct, it can't be retro-fitted (or at least without difficulty). You would need to re-wire through the loom all the way to the boot, plus enable the option on VIDA. Someone tried it on here I believe!

Is it possible to retrofit the premium audio to a car with the regular audio fit?

Or are there better options to improve the audio performance?

I can speak for my 2012 R Design S60 which has the High Performance audio, no DAB but has Bluetooth which you can stream with. USB is a better option though and you can also use an iPod. The R Design Premium would’ve added DAB and the better audio I believe.

I'd say aftermarket speakers, subwoofer and an amp would be a better option

My 2014 S60 is an R-Design Lux Nav which has DAB, Bluetooth, Nav and USB connection with a hard drive but I don't think its the "high performance" version... it plays DVD'S as well
