Default Pilot assist and parking function

Hi All,

I saw this tonight and thought it was about right for how people react to pilot assist, especially my parents. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-ESMIvzpwU

A comment below the video "heard when you auto tailgate in this car the badge changes to 4 rings"...made me chuckle!

Have to say the cruise control is excellent however the lane keeping isn't as good as the Tesla.

Mrs D76 has a high spec 2018 Tiguan that, (we didn’t realise!) had lane assist, which is essentially the steering component of pilot assist. The Tig also has ACC so when the two are combined you have pilot assist.

I prefer the VW implementation, the lane assist is permanently on (it activates and deactivates based on road condition like pilot assist) but overall is a more subtle and, I find, useful system. It feels less intrusive, but probably has a less aggressive steering action, more of an ‘assistance’ than a ‘pilot’!

It’s quite good to have it always on without needing to use the ACC too

Just my thoughts!! D76

Mrs Another V60 has lane assist in the VW Sharan, it only works on straight roads it does not work on bends and only in good road conditions, if it rains it just stops working, she finds it a little annoying as in the rain its always going off.

Im sure the lane keeping assist in the the V90 is always on. I know it works in light snow when you can almost see the lines, the Volvo will nudge back and will also try to adjust your approach and angle on a bend if it thinks your not paying attention.

I have been a bit confused with the difference between this assistant and pilot assist, i.e. isn't it just running the adaptive cruise and lane keeping or is there something else to pilot assist? Also is pilot assist really on all the time and just intervening when it finds it critical to do so or are they completely independent systems?.

I have had the situation while using pilot assist that the collision system warning came on when the vehicle in front was changing lanes to the left one, it didn't break the car but just made the audible warning with the sqaurcle appearing.

Interesting, must be a newer generation of the system in the Tiguan perhaps. Very definitely steers through bends and appears to operate in all weathers and at night. It will prompt you to put your hands back on the wheel in a similar manner to pilot assist if you play hands free for the preset number of seconds. As well as normal driving it appears to have some kind of active intervention mode like the ‘always on’ lane assist in the XC90, it’s jerked the wheel on the odd occasion when it’s misread the road markings, normally it’s gradual pilot assist like steering inputs.
