Thanks Roger.
The sensors were replaced about two years ago. I will investigate the tone rings. Speedo is fine and the fault doesn't always happen!
When, if, sorted I will report back.

The ABS warning light has started to show in my car. It comes on irrespective of I am braking or not. It sometimes comes on almost immediately I start the car and move off. I can also do journeys without it showing at all.

From what I can see, there is nothing obvious and there is no heat in the wheels (my first S80 preceded burning out a caliper with the ABS warning light coming on).

It stopped after I gave the wheels a really thorough clean with foam and gentle jet wash, so I hoped it was dirt. But it has started again.

The brakes work fine (though I have not slammed them on to try and activate the ABS).

Volvo want £104 plus VAT to do a diagnostic. Is there a cheaper diagnostic that would show what the fault was?

Is something like this worth a punt?

Is it compatible?

If your car is recent enough to have the ODB2 type socket in the arm rest it is unlikely actually to be ODB2 compliant. There are various recipes on here for making a code reader for under £20. If you have the diagnostic unit under the bonnet just use that.
