Default Importing a 780 to the UK?

I've been looking at bringing a 780 to the UK for a while and have exchanged email with a couple of others who have (or have had) them here.
I'm anticipating a US car, late spec, Turbo rather than V6 - Does anyone have any advice?
I'm happy to wait for the right car and spec.

Default inspection...

My only advice would be don't buy a car blind on the net, have someone in the states inspect it...
Oh, and maybe get a wanted post up on Turbobricks,,,

I could be wrong but i think the 780 was also sold in Japan and maybe South Africa - possibly Malta as well. Any of those options will give the handlebars on the right side of the car.

Also if you're going for a later model, don't discount the V6 as the later versions were much better than earlier ones. Of course, if you really want the turbo version don't let me stop you but the engine bay can get pretty hot as the 780 nose is shorter than the normal one.

Good luck with the import, looking forward to pictures!

There are a fair few in Holland, you will pay more for one these but getting it here is going to cost less.

Your biggest hurdle is going to be finding RHD headlights.

Would be nice to see another UK 780 so hope you find teh right one

If this is the case a jap import makes way more sense!! RHD and no salt on the roads over there is a big win, coupled with usually low mileage as they don't use their cars as much. Regulations in Japan make it uneconomical to own an older car too, which means they are usually cheap!
ALso, it is still cheap enough to do it on a personal import. I have a mate who regularly imports cars from japan and has someone there who will inspect the cars personally (probably in Tokyo) If that is any use let me know...
also, there are lots of firms there who will find you a vehicle and guide you through the whole importation process..

Hi - Thanks

There were no RHD 780 Bertones - the cars sold in Japan were LHD

Funnily enough, one of the 2 780s I know of in this Country did come from Japan.

My preference is a very late (1990) car - Turbo Petrol.

There were some diesels for the Italian Market and a 2litre Turbo too I believe.

A US car means adding side indicators (though thats not too difficult tbh)

Always fancied a red 780 turbo petrol with cream leather interior
How much does one cost?

That's a shame - thought that would be a given!

I wondered when someone would point out there were no RHD 780s ! This subject has been covered quite a few times on the forum, and I agree with Dai, best to source in Europe rather than the USA.
