Battery reset seems to be standard procedure.

They use Allianz who don't seem to have a nationwide fleet so likely subbed out to the bigger regional firms.

So do they simply disconnect battery (leave for 5mins???) then re-connect it and away you go? Does the car lose any of its memories at all?
I was always told you should never disconnect the battery and that was years before the tech in cars there is now.
Isnt it funny how things change, a bit like the petrol v diesel debate.

I've no first-hand experience of Volvo's breakdown service but this thread and others suggests it's lagging behind what other premium manufacturers provide.

My brother's BMW displayed a message to stop driving and call a dealer. Car seemed to be okay so as he was almost home he continued driving. At home he called BMW assist. They sent a BMW mechanic with a van loaded with spare parts. The guy diagnosed a faulty EGR valve. He had a replacement part in his van and 45 mins later the car was fixed. I somehow doubt that anyone from Volvo would attempt such a repair on someone's drive.

As for disconnecting the rear battery, it seems to be worth a try in some situations. Make sure the ignition is off and ideally wait a few minutes while systems go to sleep. Always disconnect the negative terminal first and leave for 5 or 10 minutes. This is usually sufficient to force a reboot although some have reported that T8s require the positive terminal to be disconnected also. Reconnect in reverse order.

They do have branded Volvo Assist vans manned by Volvo technicians BUT they are only used during daytime hours. Overnight they use local, non-Volvo roadside assistance services.

Thanks for that. I noted that the JLR one, despite the branded van, uniform and parts was actually operated by the AA when you looked at the paperwork.

As a matter of interest, at least to me, has anyone had experience of using VOC in France I had complete faith in my last XC60 never any complaint in the three years but have no long distance experience in this one yet. Will be traveling in April so roads are normaly very quiet.

Out of curiosity, has anyone had one of these Volvo Assist vans on a call-out?

My mate with an XC90 R-Design had to be recovered twice last year because of the 12v problem but neither time was it a Volvo tech despite it being during the day and mid-week.

Was fully expecting it to lose the memory for various settings - radio, seats, apps, etc. But no, all fine.
