Body/Trim: Opening tailgate from the inside.

It would be a great help if I could open the rear tailgate from the inside.
Is this possible, if not can it be modded to allow this in some way?

Totally possible because it is mandated in the USA

Replace your inside handle with the USA-version and then you have an interior handle to open the tailgate from inside.

God knows why it was never fitted to ROW vehicles (for those in the USA, ROW means beyond Canada and Mexico...)

Thanks, this look perfect. I assume this exactly replaces the existing empty grab handle in the UK models?

I can only see two on Ebay and they're both beige (like the one in your link) so will try to find a black one assumong it's not too tricky to fit.

I believe strongly that the handle is a direct replacement, but check in VIDA to see if the latch is the same. There's a chance the latch may be slightly different as it would need a cable fixing point for the interior handle cable.... if VIDA shows the same part for USA vs non-USA then you should be fine.

Keep watching eBay USA, different colours turn up at different times.....

I happen to be browsing VIDA (yeah, I'm bored) and here's what I found.

For a start, it's for a MY2009 XC90, LHD. Mine.

Lock, upper 31253053
For vehicles with 5 seats but without internal handle on the tailgate, as well as for vehicles with 7 seats (GB), (SE).

Lock, upper 31253051
For vehicles with 5 seats and with internal handle, and for vehicles with 7 seats EXC (GB), (SE).

So as I thought, the lock is different, as the internal handle has to attach somewhere.

The handle and frame are different for with and without internal handle, the part number varies by colour of the interior, so I'll not list them all here.
I couldn't find the exact part for the interior handle, maybe the diagram wasn't right

Can I clarify further please. On the Ebay link you added, it had an internal handle and also a lock. Given you say the lock itself is different (to the version without an internal handle), do you think the purchasing a set like the one shown would do the trick?

If it helps, mine is a 2007 UK spec. (I don't have access to VIDA).

If the seller is selling handle and lock, definitely go for both together, then you're safe

The frame and cover are the two pieces that make up the handle, so on ebay they will likely still be fitted together. The cover contains the handle

It comes in 3 colours: grey, umber and mocca.

Your colour code CBSB means grey

You can always fit a different colour.....
