Looking to buy an XC90
Hi All
I’m new to the forum, so please go gentle. A question that I expect has been asked many times before but what do I have to look out for when buying an XC90? I’m looking to spend around £7k, what can I expect for my money and where is a good place to buy from. Any recommendations or help is appreciated Many thanks |

Hello JEMS,
Welcome. I think this forum is distinguished from many other motoring forums in that the vast majority of its members are very knowledgeable, willing to share that experience and are (mostly) very user friendly. That said, please appreciate that your question is a very general one and not one week goes by without it being repeated in essentially the same form. This, I'm sure, understandably leads to some apathy from members to answer it yet again, repeating the same old information. Personally, I think you would get maximum benefit from this tremendous resource if you were prepared to put in a number of hours reading the various XC90 posts from the past year. You will soon get a feeling for the kinds of common problems and issues that you should be aware of, as a potential XC90 owner. Then if you have any specific, clarification questions, someone on here is sure to jump in and help you. But to be nice, here's a "starter for ten": Make sure it has a good dealer or independent specialist service history Check the AWD is working On the test drive, get the gearbox warm and check normal function Test the function of EVERYTHING electrical, esp. Radio/CD/Sat Nav. What can you expect £7k to get you? Autotrader and ebay. Good luck. XC90 ownership can be challenging, at times costly but always very satisfying. https://www.facebook.com/slrmotorcompany/ A little far from you perhaps but the feedback below is typical for "distance buyers" -------------- 1 February 2018 Having just sold my old V70 2 weeks ago I was in the market for another car, looking at BMW, Subaru, and Honda 4x4s. Over the years I had admired the cars for sale at SLR Motors whenever I saw the feeds on Facebook and knew of their excellent reputation but never thought of another Volvo. It was sheer coincidence that I decided to stop looking at cars for sale everywhere and check Facebook, when suddenly spotted a new advert on Facebook from SLR Motors with a stunning XC90 for sale within my budget. I posted a reply asking how I get in touch and Seb contacted me immediately. Seb was so great to talk to , so knowledgeable about Volvos, his stock, their histories , and is a great mechanic, courteous gentleman, who went out of his way to get the car ready for my tight deadline! Caught the train down to buy the car today and was picked up by Seb in the XC90. The car was perfect, just as described , and 4 hrs later was home. Would recommend Seb and SLR Motors to anyone and will drive the XC90 back down there when it’s time to get it serviced as I only trust Seb from now on. Thanks again Seb ----------------- |

I stick by my review 100% Getting the train down to Warrington from Glasgow to buy a car that I had never driven an XC90 or even looked at 1 so it was a gamble , and fun lol , but it was the best decision! I had been watching SLR motors on FB for a couple of years and knew Seb was the best independent to buy from , and I wasn’t wrong ! Seriously he knows these machines inside and out and someone to trust 100%. Very sadly I am having to sell it now as I need the money to buy a Medium or High roof van and it is my only option I have been on these forums for 10 years now and it’s a great forum , and I believe in being honest . I wouldn’t sell the car if I didn’t have to as out of 8 Volvos it’s the best 1 I have ever had . Anyway..sorry for the plug.. Cheers, Steve
