Map USB currently plugged in “CarPlay” port which is the port with white markings. I know that port works because I’ve tested CarPlay.
Have you tried the map update in the normal, I.e. none CarPlay port, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it only works in that port. In my 2016 XC90 if CarPlay is in use the other USB is completely disabled, it can’t even be used for charging. It’s a bit rubbish and I’ve got a funny feeling you can only do map updates from the regular port.

I'll try that this weekend

I have to say though, the navigation system is by far the best I've ever experienced. So good I'm almost considering ditching my TomTom.

I always update my maps by inserting the USB into the second port with the grey/white border around it, it never fails.

I have just noticed this statement in the Volvo accessories sensus navigation page.

"Lifetime map update" gives you updated maps at no extra charge.1

Note
1. This may change in the future.

1210 downloaded onto USB, though took longer than pervious - about 2 hours. Will update car on next run.

That's 2 map updates this month

Ambiguous to say the least. I suspect Volvo are covering themselves so that when they move to TomTom or Google maps in a year or two they can start charging for Here based maps.

Question to ask dealer: "What does 'lifetime' mean?".

Woo hoo! Plugged into normal port and it’s now installing the EU_904_1206 map. I take it this also include UK update?

9% @ 1 minute so hopefully won’t take too long and drain the battery

I’ve bought a screen protector and was going well until I misaligned it and cracked the protector when pulling out. Surprised it cracked so easily. Will shop for a better one.

Indeed! Well now I know that I need to download full map for it to work I’ll do it during my long commute. At least do t have to worry about draining battery.
