I use a length of timber in the same way mine is left loose with its position marked on the floor should it become moved. No reason it can't be fixed to the floor if required.

I have a roller door on the garage the XC90 fits in but I cant open the car doors far enough to get out of the car, garage is not wide enough.
I had to fit roller door on garage when I bought my first estate car (1998 V90) as up and over door would not close when car was in,
I could get in and out of that car ok in the garage and it was about the same width but the doors on the XC90 are very thick so no gap to get out when door touching the wall.

Thanks to XC90, you must be giving a very good workout to your lungs everytime you get in and get out of the car.....or shall we say squeeze in and out!!

I've a double garage at home which it will be parked in overnight, however length-wise its a little tight (about a foot longer than the car is). Therefore, I'm planning on fitting some foam pipe insulation across the back wall of the garage just in case.

Can anyone advise how high up (from floor level) the most sticky-out bit of a V90 is please?

Thanks in advance!
Enjoy your new V90 you will love it :-)

That's what a sunroof is for

Oh sorry. I have a double garage so no problem to open the doors it was just the length as there is only a couple of inches front and back to spare. I used to have a single garage at another house and as you say it was difficult to get out. The houses I see today with single garages are built to house a childs buggy as they look so small. Perhaps that is why so many people never use the garage for the car.

Contrary to what we all believe cars are getting bigger, think of the original Mini compared to the new Mini which is massive, the original Fiesta and the latest Fiesta. Then add to the equation that Brits are all getting larger and you soon realise why modern cars don’t fit into modern garages

Another reason for not using the garage to store a car is a lot of insurers these days actually increase the premium for storing the car in a garage. Presumably they see a lot of claims for damage from getting the car in and out.

Never seen an insurance company increase premiums for using a garage!
