Default Audio: Rear seat subs

Hi all,

Has anyone got a guide on getting to the subs in the C70? Are they built into the back of the seats? I just need to expose the wiring but I can't see where it goes!

Thanks

Mike, You could do with a picture of a C70 with the rear seat subs in it, from memory there are a series of holes in the leather where the speakers sit behind to let the sound through, if your seat backs don't have this then you might need to change the rear seat uprights for ones that have speakers - Mike

I don't seem to have any holes in the leather, however I do have the button on the rear centre console (by the rear window switches) for the subs, and if I switch this it does make a difference to the bass as if it's switching the subs on and off so I'm pretty confident they are there.

But to be honest I get new surprises with this car evey day so you never know! Lol

The subs are behind the rear seats. Access from inside car

To get to them I believe you need to remove the bolts holding the rear seats in place (2 i think) and you will also need to remove the rear headrests. Then you will be able to see the subs

To get to the bolts for the rear seat i think i remember having to remove the lower section of the seats to access the bolts

I can try and take pics later if you need

Thanks for that. I had the lower seat out and I saw the 2 bolts holding the seat back in place. I was going to undo the bolts and remove the seat back, but I noticed some wires either side by the seat belt buckle, so I'm kind of hoping these are the wires for the subs as that should be all I need access to. I didn't want to unplug them because I'm worried about disturbing something in case they are to do woth the ROPS system or roof operation. Can anyone confirm if these are for the subs? If not I'll take the seat backs out and trace the wires, just looking for an easy answer in case anyone already knows

What I'm trying to do is install a low power sub as a bit of extra kick. I'm not talking a 'McDonald's car park on a saturday night' sub, it's just a basic all in one sub that I've used before on other cars and it just gives that litle bit extra that it seems to be lacking at the moment.

Does anyone have access to the wiring diagams for the C70 convertible with the SC-901 Dolby set up (and the knowledge to understand them!) that could check what I want to do? The way I have installed this before is a direct power feed with a switch and then it just connects accross the rear speakers in parallel with one lead connecting to the left speaker and the other lead connecting to the right speaker. I'm guess on the C70 though that the switch in the rear centre console for the subs is just a power switch, so I'm hoping I can tap in to that so I can turn the extra sub on and off with this switch. And then can I just connect it in parallel with the 2 subs in the same way I have connected before across the rear speakers?

Ran out of time today so I'm hoping to get the rear seat backs out next saturday and have a better look. If the wires in my photo are for the subs (3 wires the same on both sides) then I'm hoping it is just as simple as 2 of them being for power and the 3rd for the sound, in which case I could tap into the power wires there and then tap one connector into the left hand 3rd lead and the other into the right hand 3rd lead. Does that sound plausible or am I way off? Could it be 3 wires to the sub or should there be 4?

The "Vert" has a rather different set up to the others in that the rear subs are switched in or out by the switch but it doesn't do this by killing the amp it actually sends a signal to the left and right crossover units which enable/ disable the subs.

Have a look in the boot under the carpet directly behind the rear seats for a white 11 pin connector (ident is 24/55), pin 8 of this connector should be a Yellow/ Green wire, splice in to this wire and use it for your second amp remote on/ off - Mike

I had the boot carpet out and didn't notice that connector, but hopefully it is in there somewhere tucked away I'll have a look for this hopefully that will do it, thanks.

The cable run goes across the car from one side to the other with the plug break looking like it is more on the left side of the car probably behind the seat back rather than in the boot, just found a different scrap view on the diagram showing a better picture of location - Mike

That's great, thanks. Part of me is tempted to go out and have a go now but I think I will hold off until next saturday so I'm not pushed for time
