Default 1.6 drive squeaking and P1402

So my sons C30 1.6 drive is on 74k miles, and has started squeaking when hot in idle or 1st gear

I put a cheap code reader on it and got the following:-

1402
Raw code: 1402
ECU: 10
Status: Pending fault present, Pending fault present during this driving cycle, Test conditions are met, Test is inhibited by other DTC, Test has not been completed, Validated and stored in non volatile memory, Validated fault present at time of request, Validated fault has been present during this drive cycle
Mini: Heated Catalyst Power Switch Overtemperature Condition (Bank 1)
============2==============
2458
Raw code: 2458
ECU: 10
Status: Pending fault present, Pending fault present during this driving cycle, Test conditions are met, Test is inhibited by other DTC, Test has not been completed, Validated and stored in non volatile memory, Validated fault present at time of request, Validated fault has been present during this drive cycle
============3==============
P1402
Raw code: 1402
ECU: 10
Status: Confirmed
OBDII: EGR Metering Orifice Restricted
Mini: Heated Catalyst Power Switch Overtemperature Condition (Bank 1)

interested if anyone has any guidance - a google pulls up egr valve - but then I read about replacements and still codes coming up?

thanks in advance

I don't know a lot about your sons specific model, I would recommend giving the egr a clean lots of info on the Web about how to clean the egr (quite an easy job).

If you struggle to find instructions for egr disassembly let me know the model / year of the car and I will pull some screen shots from Vida for you

Thanks

Dave

by means of an update and hopefully to help others here is what happened:

Took the EGR apart - it was filthy and the valve was actually stuck at the top of its rotation when I took it apart - so cleaned that with carb cleaner and reassembled.

Then took for a drive and found at 2500 - 3500 revs would go into limp mode and when you slowed down the car would stall - and only restart if you reset by turning key all the way back to position 0 - then restart.

I put a code reader on it, and it was showing a fuel rail pressure issue - so changed the fuel filter - and now it seems to be running fine.

Thanks to M4ss4 for your help !
