... the bidding is going up much more slowly this time, perhaps the world is becoming bored with 'one of the best, if not the best examples of a classic Volvo 240' every week... or perhaps the seller is just making the shill bidding less obvious?

I suppose there is a remote possibility that the seller subscribes to this thread, but it is more likely that he reads the Land Rovers 'R Us forum :-).

The motor car is spoiled by being LHD.

What will it make - well it would be a middling car, so about £2,500, but it is registered as an historic vehicle, so 50-100% more. I think it might make £5,000 with a fair wind.

:-)
I thought this one did quite well in ending the auction at £4,300, but somewhat surprisingly it didn’t make its reserve. Assuming £4,300 was what the market will pay for an historic vehicle like this, compared to £2,500 for a middling later motor car, which makes the historic vehicle premium about 75%. That corroborates our observations of the market quite well.

£4.3k seems a bit strong to me Alan. I think it would not look so good in the flesh AND it's a left hooker.

I base this on gut. Nothing else more scientific!

I thought the 2 door was quite a rare car?

As a slightly rough car I wouldn't see it at much more if it was in Europe/LHD country, but minted then I could see it fetching 15k euro? But could cost 9k to make mint tho.

I do like the 2 door, if it was a couple of grand I'd buy it.

As I said above Andrew, I thought £4,300 was a good bid, but it didn't make the seller's reserve - so he must think it is worth rather more. We discussed this motor car last week: it is a bit rough around the edges, LHD and not at all original - so I'd agree with you that the seller is wrong and he is very unlikely to get any more.

My head said this one was worth closer to £3,000 but my heart was willing it on towards £5,000 - deep down I think I wanted it to be worth more because if this car sells for £4,300 then the RB is worth quite a bit more (perhaps £6,000). That is something of an academic argument in that I can't imagine any circumstances under which the RB would be for sale in the foreseeable future. Also I don't think motor cars like the RB should be worth £6,000.

I suppose we may well see this oddball LHD 2 door again if the seller is determined to get more for it.
