Default 850 reversed in to - is this repairable?

Hi all,

Sadly my 850 was reversed into in the work car park today resulting in a smashed windscreen and a sizable dent in my front wing to name a few. There also appears to be a very small amount of damage to the A pillar which is also a concern.

I've had the car for nearly three years and I want to keep it for as long as I can if the repairs remain reasonable. On the face of it, I'd need new trim round the windscreen, a new wing and windscreen. Does this seem like it could be reasonable to repair or is there likely to be anything else? I've added some photos showing the damage.

I've also found someone seemingly selling a passenger side wing in red on Gumtree but the clear reflector and body coloured molding suggests this might be a V70 wing. Can anyone confirm this for me?

https://www.gumtree.com/p/car-replac...ing/1471893065

I've never had to deal with anything like this before, nor am I an expert at car repairs so any advice would be appreciated since I've no idea what to do!

Many thanks in advance.

Wouldn't it be easier to let the insurance company deal with it ?

No idea! The guy seemed to be open to going through insurance or settling outside of it. I've never had to deal with anything like this before so I've no idea of the pros/cons or what I should even do

Hi,

I can answer the easy question - that's a V70 wing in Garnet Red.

BR,

Rich.

Sadly the insurance company will class that as a write off, you can buy the car back and have it repaired but best speak to a local coach builder shop for costs before you decide

absolutely not a car of that age would be classed as an instant write off and the owner would loose the car that he says he wants to keephe should get an estimate for the repair and claim the cost off the other driver

As above.

That looks repairable to me, but you need the guidance of a decent body repair shop to know for sure.

Make sure you know the full price and viability of repair before coming to any agreement, either with the insurance company or the individual.

From the photos I would say the biggest issue is repairing the A pillar to the correct profile to ensure the screen fits and seals without leaks.

If it goes through insurance there is a very big chance they will write the car off. Cost of the A pillar repairs, a new wing and screen, along with all the stripping work and respraying will outweigh the insurers valuation of the car - which will be three parts of bugger all.

If it was me, I would take it to a local small bodyshop and ask their opinion of the potential repairs and cost. Then proceed from there.

Edit: Above replies posted whilst I was typing.

That’s the hardest part, getting the guilty party to part with their cash.

Someone ran into the back of my wife’s car last year and the third party said she would pay. An estimate was obtained and sent, it was £350 and the third party decided that was too expensive so she put it through her insurance. My wife now has to own up to a non fault claim for the next 5 years…

Many thanks - that was my suspicion. At least I didn't get my hopes up!

That's my worry. It's near enough 27 years old and the bodywork wasn't in the greatest shape to start with. The interior isn't too bad, it's been spotlessly reliable, has four new tyres and even a full tank of E5.. couldn't have come at a worse time! Despite all that, I'm almost certain it'll be a write off.

Exactly my thoughts. A wing alone is £600 from Volvo, plus £400 to paint so I'm a grand in before thinking of anything else. The issue with taking it to a bodyshop is that it's undriveable at the moment thanks to the hole in the windscreen.

Thanks again all who have replied
