Default 760 GLE wiring - 12N

Can anyone confirm what is, or isn't required to wire up the 12N socket on a facelift (1989) 760GLE please?

My understanding is (but would like confirmation):
1. Unlike later cars (900 series) I don't think there is a connector at rear of car, so it is necessary to break into loom and 'scotchlok' onto appropriate wires, ensuring that tail and brake lights are at the feed side of bulb failure unit.
2. Is a bypass relay necessary for this car? Literature says need one for cars with bulb failure unit and/or ecu. No ecu on this car; and I wired a 200 series years ago without one (it has a bub failure unit) - no problems occurred
3. Is the trailer warning light on dash already wired, or does it need wiring/fitting with an 'indicator visual display unit' between it and flasher unit?

If you're tapping in before the bulb failure warning unit you won't need a bypass relay.

I don't know how to make the warning light work, it doesn't happen automatically. I just used the buzzer that came with my towbar but getting the dash light working would be a neater solution.
