XC90 T8, is it for me?
The wife has a 2009 XC90 D5, getting a bit tatty and it feels dated. Most of the time she'd prefer a small car, just occasionally we need the full person or load carrying capabilities.
Most days she does the school run (5 miles round trip) and maybe a trip to the shops, once or twice a week a 10 mile round trip and once every other week a 40 mile round trip. Obviously some longer trips thrown in there too, but that's the general makeup. There seem to be plenty of deal on the XC90 now so am tempted by the T8 as by her driving patterns she'd be mostly running electric, BUT is it worth just keeping the XC90 for when we need it and buying a new small car for her general driving? |

Unless I needed a 3rd row- I’d go for an XC60 or even XC40.. or keep the old 90 and get a small plugin hybrid for local runs.. but that’s me

Makes no financial sense to pay a 13k premium over the D5 for something that might do 5 to 10k miles per year and I assume will be a private purchase not a company car.....

It’s a lot of capital to invest in an XC90 T8 for use primarily as a city shopping/school run transporter......and IMHO no doubt a hassle parking in supermarket car parks the whole time.
My recommendations are the same as Haldex’s, there are an increasing no of small high value/status eCars becoming available.

If you do opt to keep the current XC90, and get a small second EV/hybrid for short trips, I believe there is going to be an XC40 pure electric next year, if you don't fancy something like a leaf. Also the e-Mini is due next year too. Going to be a lot more choice soon from all the major manufacturers.
Love our T8 though...
