You could try the free repairs offered by some companys. I believe it works out cheaper for your insurance company to pay for a repair rather than replace the screen.
Where i live you often see them in supermarket car parks at weekends offering thier services. Regards Iain

Hi,
The crack I got in my screen couldn't be repaired as it was just a bit too bit for the repair.. Had to get the screen done.. Bye bye £60 and they have a note of it on my insurance.. The beggars.. I can remember the rock that hit me too. On the M1 on the way to Notts to look at houses... A nice unevenly shaped, jagged golfball sized one... My was I surprised!!! Des. . .

If you have fully comp insurance, all the national windscreen fitters, likw Autoglass etc, will do the windscreen chip repair for free. It gets charged to your insurance company, but has no effect on No Claims etc.
If you get it done by a national, keep the receipt in the car; if the windscreen fails from that point afterwards, they know the cost of the original repair off the bill for a new screen. Won't save you anything, but keeps you in your insurance company's good books! That's one reason I went fully comp on my 240, 3rd party was about £100, fully comp was £136, so I'll have 'made' the difference on a single windscreen repair. Norfolk is a terrible place for windscreen damage, I have lost a least one screen on every single car that I have had here, mine or company car!
