Default Is this why my engine is noisy?

My Volvo XC60 has the 2.0 litre VEA engine. I noticed it was significantly noisier than many other diesel cars but could not understand why, bearing in mind that the VEA engine is a modern design. I read up on this and it seems that the VEA engine is an alloy unit rather than steel. Would this explain why it clatters more?

Cheers,

Sven

no , many diesels are alloy now .. There is a balancer shaft in the sump which can clatter a bit . Have you got the top engine cover and engine undertray in place ?

Also, not every VEA engine IS equipped with balancer shaft/shafts.

Maybe that's the reason?

Out of memory- shafted/shaftless engines were both made into 2.0 diesels..
