Twin circuit brake diagram
Does anyone know where there is a diagram of the brake circuits on a late twin circuit Amazon? I've seen one somewhere but don't know where.
I am trying to track down why I have half as much braking power on my nearside front to the offside. It's driving me a bit nuts. I've put on new flexi lines, some new hard lines, a new caliper, master cylinder is recent..still pulls hard right. I thought I might find a clue in the diagram. Cheers Dave

You may need to reset the plunger in the brake line distribution block. Item 22 on the diagram. All this info is in the Amazon Haynes. |

Thanks Derek. I've done the plunger/valve a few times, makes no odds. When I took the brake pads out of the old caliper today they were worn on an angle, suggesting that some of the 4 brake cylinders were not working as hard as others, which I suspect means that one circuit is not working as hard as another. There were no other mechanical issues with the caliper (ie pad sticking against caliper etc) which would have caused it.

I would check the nearside caliper pistons are operating freely and not partially seized.
Remove 1 of the pads and place some steel or wood in its place. Have an assistant press the pedal as you watch. While the pistons are out, you can ease back the dust seal and check each piston for corrosion. Chris. |

Thanks Chris,
I've just put a new caliper on there, as I thought it was a sticking piston. Same issue.

Hi, I chased a similar problem for a couple years, new calipers were the same. Finally discovered the caliper mounting bracket was slightly bent. Probably from an accident in the distant past, before I owned the car. Had to remove the bracket and check it on a flat surface, comparing it to a known good one. Put the good one on, and problem solved.

Hi,
I would still check the piston movement is OK on all 4 pistons. It may help you to detect a defect on the pipework or master cylinder. As mentioned by c1800 you need to lift the car to check the mounting bracket is not out of line. Chris |

Is the mounting bracket the same part for all disc braked cars?
I'll have a look at it tomorrow, not sure I'll be able to see owt without getting it off though. Good tip...thanks.

Searching shows that the brackets are different for the late twin circuit cars.
