.......i do agree what you have all said......if it were the sixties i would be doing the same as then it didn`t matter although i got fined £20 for a slightly blowing exhaust on a car i had just bought the night before and this was 7.30am going to work the following morning.....i hadn`t time to fix it.....the flexible joint had gone rusty......today you can get away with more as they are too biro dependant writing this and writing that and for what......nevertheless as i am now 62 i was brought up in the South East where one does have to toe the line a bit more than those that live out in the sticks or less congested areas.......

I think most of the time it depends where you are, some forces have the resources and even divisions that deal with this sort of thing. I live in norfolk and it's apparent to me that the very few plod there are round here are sat doing speed checks or dealing with drunken kids on a friday or saturday night. I reckon the trick is, don't give them a reason to stop you, make sure all your lights, trim, exhaust ect are in good order and you'll be fine. too difficult to get money for stuff like that however, speeding tickets are easy money...it's all about the revenue.

i've heard they could take the car some where and get some one who knows what they are looking for to check it over(in certain extreams)but hey like boosted say's, dont give em a reason to pull you.alot of my friends are into 4x4's off road and what have you and the plod are on them all the time dipping tanks and pulling things to bits.

if you want to prevent the oil in the intake system, mann hummel make crankcase ventilation filters. IIRC provent 200 was the one i looked at and from what i remember quite a few VW owners use it. think it was about £80 for the 200 model when i last looked.

I've driven around in some absolute heaps and never been stopped down here, other than a REALLY ratty transit where they dipped my tank but it was basically a roadblock training exercise where all vans were being checked for red.
I've been under the car with it running and revving and all you get is a little puff of steam, nothing like you get out of my friends XR2 that i'm borrowing. Anyway the aim of the game is to stop octane killing vapours from entering my inlet and reduce any chance of my exhaust valves looking like this again- Guy |

Your engine doesn't work in close loop anymore and that shouldn't do any good. ECU are designed to work in close loop and every bit of air is "counted". If you want proper maintenance, I'd say it's much better to clean the PCV regularily or install a catch can that you can purge. But allowing blowby gases to atmosphere is first illegal and second probably not good for your engine.

Or you could not be a dickhole about it and not vent that crap into the air we breathe. The emissions and pollution laws are there for a reason, Volvo didn't install all that junk just to mess with you. Clean it up and be done with it if it causes you problems.
