Default Transmission Noise

I have a constant what seems to be a transmission whine on my 06 XC70se D5 Geartronic. It starts iro 40mph and gets louder as the speed increases. I only seemed to notice it after the last Volvo service when I had front steering bushes plus discs & pads replaced, plus a new set of Pirelli Scorpion tyres fitted. I have had the steering geometry checked and its ok. The noise gets louder with rear seat passengers in the car. Anyone any ideas before I spend another fortune getting my Volvo Stealer to check the car?

Sounds like it may be a rear wheel bearing gone.
I notice in the history file of my own that it had a rear bearing replaced this July @ around 60k, thankfully before i bought it.
Not cheap @ £145 plus the Vodka and Tonic for the part, and also plus fitting! (around 1.5 hrs probably)
AWD rear bearings won't be as long lived as non AWD ones.
Much cheaper parts available than Volvo of course, should you choose....http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CONTINENTA...#ht_3426wt_857, although it may not be this that you are experiencing, could be a prop bearing, or rear diff!

It needs booked in really for diagnosis, but i'd avoid Volvo dealer if at all possible, try an Indy...or a local.

ps. i have the Pirelli's and they aint the quietest at 72db. (outside)

If it's a wheel bearing, the noise may well change when you're on a bend.
