You can also use this discount on the recently released Motul Sport 5w-40, reducing the price to £41.63. This oil sits perfectly between the popular MOTUL 8100 X-Cess 5w-40 and MOTUL 300v 5w-40. It has specifically formulated by MOTUL for the UK market and to compete against other fully synthetic ester based 5w-40 engine oils that are used for fast road, track and competition use.

Appreciating the offer of 15% off, I guess with all such % off promotions, the question is the standard non offer price from which the discount is applied. Although I am sure that they are reasonable in this case, perhaps - just perhaps- the price paid may still not be best price obtainable. It's a simple case of shopping around to achieve this irrespective of discounts.
For me, wanting some good 5w/30 fully synthetic, I found 5 litres of Mobil 3000 ( Ford specification) for sale in Wilkinsons for £24 - no offer, just a straight non discounted purchase. Of course this may be available somewhere cheaper at a discounted %.

You will always find items cheaper if you keep looking around, but we're not trying to be the cheapest. Our aim is to offer sensible prices as well as good service and a range of quality products. While things like Mobil, Shell and Castrol are available all over the place, brands like ***hs, Millers, Gulf, Red Line and Motul are not as easy to get hold of and those are what we sell the most of.

Cheers

Thanks Tim - point taken, and if course your specialist knowledge will confirm that some premium makes and grades are not as good as other brands. There might of course be another school of thought which may just question what oils are used in general at main dealers where of course the owners and customers put their complete trust in. Are we saying that they might use oils which are superior to compatible grades from premium brand suppliers? Or are they just buying bulk quantities of the correct specification oils at the most competitive prices.
I would guess that if they aren't buying at the most competitive prices then their buyers would be considered not to be up to scratch.
Just a thought, but......

Dealerships tend to use decent oils, but the oil manufacturers sometimes really overcharge them. One of our customers works in a BMW dealership and it's cheaper for him to buy the oil for his M3 from us and pay postage than it is to buy it at cost from work. Due to a commercial agreement between Castrol and BMW, they had to pay that price. Certain oils are sold as dealership only products, but the only difference is might be the dye that colours the oil.

Everyone knows Castrol, Shell and Mobil and some people consider paying their prices can be seen as paying for the name, but there is another way of looking at it - you're paying for peace of mind. If you put in one of their oils, you know it's a decent oil and will be fine. If you buy something you've never heard of, then you could be buying overpriced rubbish. Of course, it could also be top stuff, but you might not know. With all the oils that we sell, we've sold enough to know that they are good oils (and we generally have some tested before we take them on), so we are confident in recommending alternatives to the bigger brands. Even with us knowing the oils that we sell, some customers do not want anything other than the big brands and that's fair enough if they are happy with the oil.

If you want top performance oils, you do have to get away from the big brands - their oils are aimed at meeting manufacturer specifications. ***hs Titan Race, Millers CFS, Motul 300V/Sport, Red Line and Gulf Competition are the ones that I usually suggest for hard use, but they aren't suitable for all cars and there are certain things (such as some of the newer Volvo diesels) where they could be harmful.

Cheers

Tim

Bought some Shell Helix Ultra from Opie Oils last month and the service was spot on. Price wise I could have purchased the same oil locally for a few quid more than the posted price from Opie, so it was a good deal all round. The local shop also didn't throw in the 1ltr bottle bags, unlike Opie who provided four of them. Very handy to have.
