overdrive gearbox M41

Hi

I have finally got my car back on the road and the gearbox is making one hell of a whine in third gear. Has anyone got an M41 they are willing to sell?

Bite the bullet and get new bearings fitted. Any used gearbox you buy might also have issues and possibly be priced at more than your rebuild.

Thanks Derek, Roger recommended Hardy Engineering in Leatherhead, so I am exploring a rebuild. My only thought was to swap gearboxes out and get it repaired meanwhile I am still on the road......

Whining in third may be linked to an issue with the layshaft, so be prepared to consider bearings for this or indeed another shaft. 4 speed gearboxes are fairly common and share most components with the M41 overdrive type, so it might be worth getting one of the former as a doner.
