Wing Mirrors
HI,
I wanted to know whether anyone could help me with a wing mirror problem. Both the left and right are quite damaged (see pics) and wanted to know a) whether I could purchase an OEM pair, or b) refurbish them, and if so how? Do I need to take the whole door card off etc...?!!! They're electric off an 85' 240 GL Wagon Best Matt |

Those electric door mirrors were only used for a few years.
They are easy enough to take off, the black plastic cover pops off from the inside, remove the door card to unplug the wires |

Matt: ~ the mirrors are quite straight forward to restore- I had submitted details with pictures some time back but can’t find them now.
Removing the mirror is detailed in the manual- better with the door cards off as you will then have full access with fewer breakages. Materials: ~ etch primer for the aluminium & then grey primer, you should also be able to get spray satin black from your favourite paint factors. The aluminium showing in your pictures seem to have a lot of pitting so a suitable filler will probably be useful here (but again always etch prime for aluminium) they should come up like new once completed. Do the mirrors come away from the mounts? (the hinged section)

Once you have access to the interior fasteners holding the mirror to the door frame then the whole unit comes away- I’m not sure if you can separate the body from the swivel mounts for the ’85 model but from memory I did for my ’88 240. When you have the mirrors removed you will be able to check but it shouldn’t stop you either way.
Good Luck Bob. Found the link to the original mail etc- https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=279582 Hope it helps. Last edited by Bob Meadows; Jul 9th, 2019 at 14:32. |
