Check what it says in the driver's handbook and if it matches the spec for the Idemitsu type TLS it should be fine - that said, Volvo's own has the correct synthetic friction modifiers for the Volvo box, many UK Volvo users have found the Mannol version of JWS3309 which has the spec for the Aisin Warner 55-50 boxes works well. I've read that the Toyota and Ford similar spec'd fluids are also used with good results.

When I flushed my mums I used closer to 18 litres... 10 quarts is only around 11 litres so maybe not enough?

There are more knowledgeable people than me on here Sierra but the JWS3309 spec is, I believe, the fluid that is required. The subject is well covered on the Forum here but I bet your problem is caused by the fact the car has been lying around for a while. Give it its three changes and I'm sure your daughter will have smooth gear changes while applying her make up. Is this allowed in US?
I bought a 2003 C70 last September with the T5 engine and 124,000 on the clock. A cracking car. Looking forward to getting some good weather and the roof down. Not going to happen for a little while. Bitter wind and snow from Russia and Scandinavia next week.
I had Yosemite on my iMAC screensaver. Lovely.
There are lots of sharp guys on here so don't be afraid to ask and post a few pictures of your car.
Welcome to the Forum

Here in the U.S. the interest has died down and getting information on forums is tough. I will get to the point,I have an 01, C70 with 54,000 miles on it (recently purchased) the transmission is shifting hard from 1-2 and a little stiff in upper shifts. I have flushed the trans. once, did a B4 servo cover update, swapped out the upper and lower torque mounts. Just yesterday we had our first snow and I switched on the W (wet) mode and the trans. is shifting as smooth as silk. Question, what is that telling me and what is my next step? I am planning on doing a second flush in the morning in hopes of improving the shifting. I think this car sat for months before I purchased it and the transmission got slug in the solenoids. Whats your opinion, I am looking for advice and making new friends so let me know your thoughts please. P.S. Yosemite is in my back yard and looking beautiful this time of year!!
W button is for winter starts u off in higher gear to limit spin. which auto box do u have standard auto or geartronic?

Wow you guys are great, I never had this many responses to any posts on the other Volvo forums that I am a member of. Now to respond to all of your posts. Idemitsu type TLS is equal to type LwS3309 according to FCPEURO, so I am good there. I will be doing a second flush today and am hoping it improves the shift as it did on the first flush. The first flush was pretty dirty but no metal and to answer your question it does not have a filter from the factory. I have heard that some have installed an after market filter in these cars. One more thing , no it is not legal to drive and put your makeup on here in the states but my 21 year old daughter is a 21 year old female so her priorities are what they are. I am very impressed with all the posts and am grateful to all that have responded. I have a saying "it is not as important to know the answer as it is to know where to find the answer" it appears that this is a great source to find the answer. Thanks again to all, you will be seeing me in the future.

What you mean is she knows what she means and wants and so everything you know is right is a pile of senior news cos' it isn't on the Faceblogtwittersphere...and her friends know "everything" worth knowing..wait 'til she's hitting her late thirties...you've got no chance of putting things right IMHO

You don't know the half of it AS, not only all you stated but she has an IQ of around 150+ she is beautiful and very athletic so I have no chance of influencing her.
