Default Has anyone "lifted" a V50??

Let me explain. My main passion in life is hiking and I'm out almost every weekend hiking a trail. However, I'm finding the car struggles a bit getting to and from some areas as it's a fairly low slung car and some of the roads are less than forgiving (huge potholes, untarmaced roads, etc).

Now don't get me wrong I take my time going over these roads but the undertray catches constantly. Has anyone "lifted" a V50? I'm not talking crazy lifts, just maybe an inch higher or so to give that extra ground clearance. Even some higher profile tires will probably help a little I would think?

Well, I can only recommend getting stock AWD model and you wont have problem with low clearance, like...ever :P

joking aside - AWD suspension have different springs and extra mounts making it stance higher. I'm not sure whether its possible/feasible/sensible to go that route, but its worth investigating maybe?

If you want to lift your car the following should do. Ours looks like a tractor now:

Eurocarparts Sachs Springs:

627660940 2 Sachs Coil Spring (Front)
627661240 2 Sachs Coil Spring (Rear) Heavy Duty

I'll post a picture later but our factory lowered DRIVe is now pretty high. This, for me, was deliberate as well. Every time I took the car to the alps it would ground on top of hill junctions. It doesn't now! As long as you don't care about the look you'll be fine.

dontations welcome D

joking aside - that set looks like a very good deal (quality wise and price wise). I wonder though, would it be wise to put such on stock suspension with its long travel or it would f*up characteristic?
I am not interested in lowering just for looks, it would have to actually retain the good handling characteristic it has now (yes, it does! )

Haha!

Lizard when it's lower it will look much hotter and you will gaze at it longingly every time you park and walk away from it!

Photo of mine with longer springs is here

I reckon the Sachs springs lift the car by approximately an inch front and back.

Unless you put springs of shocking quality, it'll only ever improve handling, so definitely do it.

AWD or not, your handling around bends is probably more boat like than the rest of us due to the sheer height of the thing, so things can only improve for you.

haha funny comments here, Lizard it does look like you have xc70 springs and shocks on there.

But for V50 Craig, what mileage you on? maybe just replacing your worn our dampers and coils might even do the trick and restoring the handling and height if they are completly worn out rather than altering the ride unless thats something you want to do?

I go into the european mountains yearly with my S40 and its not far from scraping the ground. driven it both on and off road in the summer gravel and snow covered roads. Maybe a different angle approach to the obstacle? thats if you are hitting it head on though?
