Corrosion (rust) warranty
Hi,
i've got some rust coming out from underneath the paint on my late 2007 S40. I've contacted the dealer who said the car is no longer covered, but the website says there's 12 year warranty on corrosion that's due to manufacture fault: "For twelve years on all models, from the date that the vehicle is delivered to the first owner, rust perforation through any sheet metal body panel attributable to faulty materials or workmanship during manufacture will be rectified free of charge by an authorised Volvo dealer. " Source: http://www.volvocars.com/uk/own/main...volvo-warranty I pinged the dealer back and awaiting their response, did anyone try getting their car fixed for this issue with a dealer? Is the 12year warranty applicable to all volvo cars? |

Pleased to hear that.
I know the problem with this subject is establishing that the rust has come from inside out, so to speak, but it's reassuring to hear that the warranty will be honoured when it should be! David

yes, will see next week. I swear there was some evidence the rust was coming out on the door panels, there's one on the arch over front wheel - which may be argued to be due to a bump/scratch that was repaired badly - but there's one just above the windscreen (but someone jumped on my roof - yeah, I know - and they may argue that it's due to that. Will find out soon

I think it would be highly unlikely you'll see any repairs done under warranty to the bodywork. The clue is in the wording "through any sheet metal body panel attributable to faulty materials or workmanship during manufacture"
The most likely cause of corrosion is external factors; something scraping underneath and breaching the rustproofing coating or previous accident repairs etc. Mercedes had a problem with year 2000-ish cars where they hadn't sealed the seams properly between the sheet metal pressings of the doors etc and they did actually honor a lot of claims for repair as it was a manufacturing defect. To be fair I haven't heard of any members on here with rusting of the body panels. The suspension rusts because Ford but other than that the body shell is normally very sound. Let us know how you get on?

usually an annual bodywork inspection is also required, and normally done as part of the annual service ?
