Default DPF and additive

So, still waiting to enjoy my (new to me) 2006 V50 2.0D as it has a leak from the oil sump and the new sump is taking a while to arrive...

... in the meantime, I bought a Haynes manual and have read two disturbing things: one is that the DPF should be replaced at 75k (I'm assuming these are very expensive? - any ideas? ) and the other is about topping-up the additive for the DPF. My car is 2006 and as per the VIN is a euro 4 car so I'm guessing that means it has the DPF: do they all require additive?

Haynes suggests that after topping-up additive, it's a Volvo-only job to tell the ECU that you have additive, else it just doesn't use it and the DPF will block; so, my questions:
  1. Does the DPF really need changing at 75k? Do most people just ignore this?
  2. Is there any way to get the car to tell me how much additive is remaining, or is it a physical check only?
  3. If additive is topped-up, is there a non-dealer (i.e. cheaper) way to update the computer?
  4. Would there be any way for me to tell if the additive has already been used up?

Any help appreciated
Many thanks

I’d check it’s got one first, E4’s on the 06 Plates generally don’t. If you have a DPF then yes it has to be changed at 75k. Call the dealer and quote your chassis number and they’ll confirm whether you have one or not. I had an 06 and it didn’t have a DPF.

That's interesting to know, I'll get on to the dealer, thanks.
