Ok I’ve changed the lights to the 2x D2R bulbs & replacd the ignitor with the eBay one, I’ve now driven to Ikea so wish me luck!!
The cheapo bulbs have a very blue tint so they will be replaced in January some time I’m sure! Sunset at 4pm so I’ll report back!

Remember that HID bulbs have a burn in period. Cant remember what that is but the gradually get brighter/whiter over your first week of use.

Well, they work, but I don’t know wft the previous owner was thinking, I believe he didn’t know what he was doing so he’s bodged in a D1S in the rhs & tried to adjust it to suit obviously unsuccessfully as now my lights are pointing all over the shop!!
I’ll either need to take it as is to an mot shop & get them aligned
Or
Wait & get new bulbs in January & get them aligned & fitted at an mot station.

You could do an approximate alignment on a wall for the time being so at least you can see better with out the risk of blinding anyone.

Just a quick question on hids,

How long do they last from new? I spoke to a mate with a 2012 xc90 & he said he wasn’t overly impressed with the lights unless he used high beam.

Mine lasted 120,000 km, or just under 10 years. They were the original lamps.

I checked the operating hours and they had exceeded their expected lifespan, so I was happy.

And mine provide excellent illumination, and high beam is superb.
You have to make sure they are aligned correctly... not too low....

I’m getting intermittent dipped beam failure on the off side lamp now, maybe time to treat the XC to some real D2R lamps, but these got me out of a pickle!
Very good for the money if your on a budget, but I imagine nowhere near as good as the real deal.
