Default V50 18" Wheel replacement

Afternoon all, I have a v50 T5 with stupid 18" wheels. I am fed up of the poor ride quality and punctures I seem to get with these wheels. Anyone know if I can drop 16" wheels on from another V50 (Will the calipers fit behind etc)

Hah, some people would cut themselves for 18' and some complain having them, funny how it goes to answer you - if you have 320mm brake discs, 16' wheels BARELY clears them and although its possible (I drove on 16's steels for 2 days) it depends on wheel type. But it is really tight fit.
302mm rotors or smaller are no problem.
bear in mind, if your car is 18' from factory your speedo will be programmed to 18' wheels. If you have stability control etc it may sometimes go haywire if you switch to 16'and rolling diameter will differ too much.

16's won't interfere with stability control if you up the tyre sidewalk and keep the rolling radius the same, or similar.
I've just replaced my 17's with 16's as it was cheaper to buy a set of good condition used wheels and tyres than it was to buy one new wheel.

Tyre profile has changed from 205/50 17 to 205/55 16 and no issues. I run 300mm discs, so can't comment if you have 320mm discs.

What sort of tires do you have on your car and profile?

I had 18" Midir's on mine when I bought the car and the previous owner slapped on some budget tire's and the ride was hurrendous. Simply changing tires to the premiums made a massive difference in both ride comfort and grip.

Perhaps that will fix my problems, I am running 4 of these 2154518 Budget 215 45 18 93w High Performance M&S Tyres x2 215/45 TWO £95
Brand Hifly

The backend seems twitchy from time to time, and nothing could be found at the MOT - Tyres ?

Yeh would be safe and better for you to change the tires and get something different but more of a premium tire. Look for good ratings on sounds noise etc.

T5 will benefit better as you will most likely get wheel spin in wet conditions with budgets so its defenitly worth a try.

Found the front tyre to be out of shape, no wonder it felt out of balance. Put the space saver on which is a 16" wheel, so that suggests a set of 16" wheels would fit

Just thought I'd throw this in I run Pirelli p7 and have had on two occasions noise from them which sounded like wheel bearing gone ain't sure if this was caused by towing the caravan on long distance but it's annoying so I'm changing brand when next due

I had the same wheel bearing like rumble with Pirellis on my C30 and it stopped as soon as I put Goodyear's on.

I have the same at the moment, but they are cheap tyres called event that I inherited with the wheels.
Dropping from 17's to 16's makes Dunlop, Goodyear and Pirelli's £30 a tyre cheaper.

A bought a V40 a few Volvo's back, private sale. Knocked the seller down due to worn wheel bearing noise at the back. The noise went when I replaced the Goodyear's on the back with bf Goodrich.
